Canon Abilities: Oh boy. Emma is "The Savior" in her canon. She has magic and can use it with varying degrees of success. I generally have her mildly use these abilities with limitations, unless there's a plot with mod approval.

🦋 Personality

1. Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?


This question is such a firm no for Emma it's actually kind of funny. While Emma's family is from the Enchanted Forest, Emma grew up in 'the land without magic'. It seems like she initially showed an interest in magic when she was young, because she's a big Harry Potter fan as a girl and admits she wishes she could solve her problems with magic. But Emma is very grounded in reality and spends the entirety of the first season of the series insisting there's no such thing as magic. There are proofs and coincidences that should open her up to the chance of believing, but she's too hurt to accept it. Even when her friend, August, is turning back into a wooden person (he's Pinocchio) and begging her for help, she still can't see it. It's not until Henry's life is at risk and she's desperate for any option that she's able to believe, and then she goes to August for help and is able to see what she couldn't before. The thing that influences her perspective on magic is how she struggled in the real world on her own. She protected herself by putting up walls and refusing to hope for more than she had.

This perspective does change, though when Emma finds out she is capable of magic, that's not exactly welcome news either. She only seems to want to learn more when the stakes are so high that magic is a necessity. As she settles into her canon roles of savior, daughter, mother, etc. she eventually finds more of an independent interest in magic and uses it on her own terms. However, this does take time and help (Regina teaches her how to use magic), and is deeply complicated after events later in the series.


2. If your character could ask for one wish, and it's going to be magically granted without any consequence, what will it be and why?


At this point in her canon, I think the one wish she'd like to have granted without consequence would be for Neal to be alive. Her canon point is long before she goes to the actual Underworld for Hook, and just after the season where they lost him. She hasn't been warned away from the Underworld by him yet to know he's in a better place. While I don't believe Emma is in love with Neal at this point, I think she will always love him as her child's father and her first love. If she had a chance to give Henry his father back without facing the consequences of dark magic, she would do it. What happened to Neal wasn't fair, and she does tell him that if she knew it was possible to go to the Underworld she would have gone for him, too. Emma thinks of him as family and she always will, so while he's gone, he's never forgotten.


3. If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.


Emma is from a canon where traveling to other realms is just a part of the show. The person who she has followed to another realm was her son, Henry. He was taken to Neverland by Tamara and Greg, and she convinced Hook to sail a rescue party (her family) to Neverland to save him.

Emma would do anything for Henry. He's her child and she loves him deeply, and he's also the first person who ever believed in her. He found her and encouraged her to be something better than she was before meeting him, and reunited her with her family by bringing her to Storybrooke. She didn't have a happy life or any kind of support system before that, and she knows it all started with Henry.

Being his mother is a huge part of her identity. He was the first person she ever really fought for, and the love she has for him has strengthened her. She would go anywhere and give up anything for her kid. And after refusing to believe in the curse for the first year that she knew him, she is always working towards being the best mother she can be.


4. If you'd like pixies to change one event in your character's life, what would it be and why?

There are certain big, traumatic things in Emma's life that she wouldn't change. For example, she gets to a point in canon where she wouldn't undo the curse, because she knows her pain made her the person she is now. Emma has a lot of regrets, but she's aware that there were eventually good things that came from those choices. The one thing I do think she'd change is not believing Henry about the curse until he ate a poisoned apple to convince her it was real. I'm not sure she'd have wanted to believe much earlier, but when she offered to leave and he begged her to stay (the conversation resulting in him eating the apple) she would probably have wished to believe him and to work on finding a way to break the curse with him instead. She does say something to this effect, about how she wishes she would have believed him and how a mother would have etc.

However, even if they did offer to change this, I'm not sure she'd accept it. Emma will be very wary of the pixies and she doesn't trust easily. While she wishes she could change this moment to spare Henry any pain or danger, she also won't trust their magic. This might be the event she'd change, but she'd never trust them enough to ask for it.
