I don't know. He was acting very strange about the dragon situation. I wanted to ask someone else who knew him if they thought he was okay.

[sheriffing]

Strange in what way?

[sweetwater]

He came to my apartment and told me to pack a bag and he was so hopeless about all of it. He said we didn't have a chance. I did see him once on the station. He look sort of... haunted? Like he was there but he wasn't really there, if you know what I mean.

[sheriffing]

He has a good sense of these things.

The battle was a disaster and we still haven't won, maybe he realized something bad was coming.

[sweetwater]

It's going to all be okay though, isn't it? He's afraid. We're all afraid. It doesn't mean we're all going to be dragon dinner.

[sheriffing]

It's okay to be afraid, but we're going to get through this.

My son - Henry, he's in stasis right now. But if he was awake, I guarantee you he'd be telling all of us that this is the low moment in the battle just before things get better.

[sweetwater]

Henry sounds smart.
My brother's in stasis. He always made me feel like we could do anything. He protected me. It's harder to be brave without him.

[sheriffing]

Henry makes me feel that way, too.

The way I see it, everything they believe in is still true. It's just that it's up to us to keep proving them right until they wake up.

[sweetwater]

That was a lot easier pre-dragon.

[sheriffing]

You really think one dragon is more powerful than all of us?

[sweetwater]

Are you going to be annoyed if I say yes?

[sheriffing]

We outnumber it and outpower it, with things like super strength, magic, psychic abilities, icy blasts, and combat knowledge... and that barely scratches the surface of what we can do.

And now we have time, not just to rest, but to prepare for this.

[sweetwater]

Not all of us have special powers. Some of us are just teenage girls.

[sheriffing]

Having been one about a decade ago, I can tell you there's no such thing as just a teenage girl.

Do you know how to protect yourself?

[sweetwater]

Sort of.

And I used to do archery at home.

[sheriffing]

My mom doesn't have super powers, but she was a badass when it came to archery. If that's what you're comfortable with, that's how you fight.

But if you ever want to know how to swing a sword, or shoot a gun, or hand a guy his ass, I could probably get you started.

[sweetwater]

I've never shot a living creature. But I could.

I think I'd be good at handing a guy his ass, especially if I've got a tough woman teaching me.

[sheriffing]

Sounds like you could do some damage.

I think you would, too. If you have some free time while we're regrouping, we can train.
