[ he means it, and the relieved breath he lets out reveals it. ]

Well, I'm alive, and relatively unharmed, so I guess that counts as pretty good. [ and then, because he's never been someone for too much subtlety: ]

So — did you hear the redheaded girl?

[ alive and relatively unharmed is as good as it gets around here. she nearly says as much, when his next question follows. one that earns a pause, because she's trying not to be annoyed with the people asking for more of them. it's been a long time for her.]

[ their work's not finished, it's never finished. the problem is, ALASTAIR isn't the only place where she's needed.]

Are you thinking about partnering up?

[ it's killing him to think of not going home, but so it does, to think of not staying. ]

I've got my dad, back home. I've been away for too long, already. But — I've got people I care about here, too.

I never thought I'd consider staying.

[ she never chose to come here, or for that matter, to stay. the possibility of going home has been the thing that's kept her in line, and now...

well, she's thought about it. probably more than she should have.]

But I'm the savior back home. My son, my parents, my friends... they need me.
